In Transition (2024)

$7.50

for flute, clarinet, alto sax, 2 horns, trombone, euphonium, piano, and percussion (vibraphone, marimba, suspended cymbal, gong, bass drum)

In the summer of 2024, I wrote a poetry journal entry reflecting on change. That summer was the first I’d spent socially transitioning–a new era of effort, and patience, and growth. Simultaneously, I was preparing to move away from my home state of Michigan, anxious at the thought of returning one day as a visitor. During those months, it was important for me to focus on excitement over anxiety and mindfulness over anticipation. Setting the scene, and to highlight quotations in this work,* a fragment of the entry reads:

August 10, 2024; 7:45pm / At the Grand River’s edge, / *David Lang’s “Last Spring” begins to play, ringing in ripe tears. / How eager to find new home–now is a time for mourning.

I look up to the river: ripples of fleeting sunlight, / small patches of halfway-healthy lily pads, long-dead branches and limbs, / scattered, all in their place.

The heart is here, so it must be home. / Look up; see the light. The ripples will fade. / *“Postlude 8,” Elliott Cole; 8:15PM. / It’s time to go.

After placing your order, you will receive a secure link to the full score PDF file lasting 24 hours after the first download. For performance, part, and print inquiries, please contact me at jadiereevesmusic@gmail.com.
