Jadie Reeves (she/her) is a Chicago-based composer-performer whose work is rooted in the connective capacities of the concert space. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Reeves spent much of her childhood struggling to reconcile her emerging identities with the communities around her. Music offered a necessary means of self-discovery and expression, first through instrumental performance and later in composition and vocal performance.

Today, Reeves creates with a foundational belief in music’s transformative powers. Her compositions are “well-crafted, eminently singable, and explore an impressive range of colors and textures” (Dr. Kimberly Dunn Adams), often exploring themes of actualization, connection, and resilience. Indeterminate and flexible materials, layered and fragmented lyrics, and spatial and theatrical elements offer performers agency to uniquely shape each realization while leaving space for audiences to discover their own points of resonance. Her contemporary-classical writing draws from a broad range of composers and popular artists, including Caroline Shaw, Missy Mazzoli, Christopher Cerrone, Gabriel Kahane, Sufjan Stevens, and Anna von Hausswolff, bringing diverse contemporary influences into a sound world of rapidly unfolding processes, layered textures, and dramatic shifts in density.

Since completing graduate studies in composition, Reeves has focused increasingly on collaborative and commissioned work. Recent projects include commissions for playOUT! Chicago (2027 Commission Award), Constellation Ensemble, the West Chester University Concert Choir, Southern Methodist University’s Concordia, Queer Chorus of Kalamazoo, and percussionist AJ Morrissey, alongside collaborations with J Holzen on the Transcendent Souls series. Her music has been performed by ensembles across the United States, including the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, MSVMA State Honors Choir, KC VITAs, OUTside VoicesKC, Choral Arts Northwest, Western Michigan University and Roosevelt University ensembles, and the West Michigan Choral Lab, for which she also served as a founding board member.

Reeves holds an M.M. in Music Composition from Roosevelt University, where she served as a Graduate Assistant in Composition, and a B.M. in Music Composition and Vocal Performance from Western Michigan University, where she was designated Presidential Scholar in Music.
